VW Passat B8 Electric Trunk VW Passat B8 Variant (3G5, CB5) (08.2014 - ...)

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with my VW Passat B8 wagon related to the rear electric trunk, and I’m hoping someone here can help me figure it out.

Here’s the full story:

It all started with problems involving the rear camera (specifically, the emblem camera). Whenever I reversed, the camera would extend but get stuck for long periods, randomly retracting later. This also caused issues with opening the trunk, as the emblem was stuck in place.

To address this, I removed the emblem, disassembled it, and put everything back together. I then wanted to perform a calibration. Initially, I thought the camera itself wasn’t the issue—it seemed related to the rear lid. Confident about this, I decided to run the “Basic Settings” adaptation using VCDS, even though I saw a warning that these settings were not reversible. I ignored it (probably my mistake) and proceeded.

After running the “Basic Settings,” the status remained as “running,” but nothing happened—the lid didn’t open, close, or show any activity.

I tried another approach: adapting the lid button by holding it until the lights blinked. While this seemed to work temporarily, it didn’t fix the issue permanently.

Current Situation:

If I open the trunk using the emblem and press the button on the lid to close it, it beeps once and does nothing.

If I open the trunk from the driver’s door, the closing button works after I hold it to redo the adaptation. However, this only lasts until I stop the car and lock it. Then, I have to repeat the same process again.

What I’ve Tried:

Running “Basic Settings” on VCDS (status stuck on “running”).

Holding the trunk lid button for adaptation (lights blink but issue persists).

Additional Info:

No error codes are showing up in VCDS or OBDeleven.

Questions:

Is there a proper way to perform the “Basic Settings” adaptation that I might have missed?

Could this issue be related to the initial camera/emblem problem, or is it purely a calibration issue with the rear lid?

Any tips or advice on how to fix this permanently?

I have access to both VCDS and OBDeleven, so any detailed steps or insights are greatly appreciated.
